Hellas Verona have been dealt a major setback with confirmation that midfielder Tomas Suslov will be out for around six months after sustaining a serious knee injury in training.
The 22-year-old Slovakia international tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee during yesterday’s session. The club announced that Suslov will undergo surgery in the coming days, after which a more precise recovery schedule will be determined.
ACL injuries of this nature typically require a minimum of half a year to heal, meaning Verona are unlikely to have him available for the remainder of 2025.
Key points:
-
Suslov injured his left knee in training, diagnosed with ACL rupture.
-
Surgery scheduled within days, recovery estimated at six months.
-
Verona lose a regular starter who contributed four goals and six assists across the last two seasons.
-
The midfielder joined from Groningen in 2023, initially on loan, before a permanent move for €1m.
-
He has 38 caps and four goals for Slovakia.
This is a heavy blow for Verona, as Suslov has been a consistent figure in their midfield since his arrival. Known for his creativity and versatility, he quickly became a reliable option under different coaches.
His absence leaves Verona with a gap in central areas at a time when the club is looking to stabilise results in Serie A. Replacements will now need to step up, with manager Marco Baroni expected to rotate between younger talents and experienced squad members.
For Suslov, the injury is also a personal setback ahead of Slovakia’s upcoming fixtures, where he has been a regular since making his senior debut. With 38 international appearances and four goals to his name, his return to full fitness will be closely monitored both in Verona and Bratislava.
