Squanch Games has made no secret of its admiration for Danny DeVito, and the studio is once again setting its sights on the Hollywood veteran. Speaking at gamescom 2025, creative leads Mikey Spano and Matty Studivan revealed they still want DeVito to join the cast of High on Life—this time as a gun in a potential third entry.
The developers previously tried to bring DeVito in for the role of Gene Zaroothian in the original game but admitted the idea never gained traction. According to Studivan, even DeVito’s agent doubted he would connect with the unusual premise, making the pitch a long shot. Despite that, Spano insists the team isn’t giving up.
“I really want Danny DeVito,” Spano said. “We tried before, but I think after this game we’ll have a better chance. I already have the perfect design for a Danny DeVito gun in my head that I want to see happen.”
Key points:
-
Squanch Games originally wanted DeVito for High on Life but never managed to approach him directly.
-
The studio now hopes to cast him as a talking gun in High on Life 3, if it moves forward.
-
High on Life 2 is already confirmed and launches on February 13, 2026, across PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Game Pass.
-
The sequel features Ralph Ineson as Sheath, alongside Betsy Sodaro, J.B. Smoove, and Richard Kind.
The first High on Life was one of the most successful Game Pass releases to date, even leading to a TV adaptation announced in 2024. With that momentum, Squanch Games is aiming higher for its sequel while leaving the door open for DeVito to join the series in the future.
As Spano put it: “Danny DeVito, reach out! We’re ready for ya.”
