Leeds United are exploring a deal for Bournemouth defender James Hill as Daniel Farke looks to add more depth to his squad ahead of the Premier League campaign.
The Cherries have already seen several departures this summer, with Dean Huijsen, Milos Kerkez, Illia Zabarnyi, and most recently Dango Ouattara all leaving the Vitality Stadium. Hill could be the next to move, as his chances of regular football under Andoni Iraola look limited.
Leeds have been active in the market, bringing in Noah Okafor from AC Milan, along with Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Lucas Perri, and Anton Stach. Still, an injury to Ethan Ampadu has highlighted gaps at the back. At present, Jayden Bogle is the club’s only natural right-back, leaving Farke short of options.
Hill, 23, fits the bill as a versatile defender who can play both centrally and on the right. With just one year left on his Bournemouth contract, Leeds believe he could be available at a reasonable price. He gained valuable experience during a loan spell at Blackburn Rovers in 2023/24, making 20 appearances, but has barely featured for the Cherries since.
Sky Sports reporter Mark McAdam confirmed on August 21 that Leeds are interested, noting Hill’s flexibility across the back line and Farke’s admiration for his style of play.
For Bournemouth, keeping hold of key attackers like Antoine Semenyo is a priority, but Hill’s limited role makes him a realistic candidate for a transfer. He played just one minute in the club’s 4-2 defeat to Liverpool, underlining his position on the fringes of Iraola’s plans.
If Leeds can strike a deal, Hill would not be expected to walk into the starting XI immediately but could provide much-needed competition for Bogle and offer reliable cover across the defense. With his contract winding down, the timing looks favorable for both clubs to agree terms.
