Emma Stone has opened up about a chapter of her life that many fans still remember well: her time working alongside Andrew Garfield. Nearly ten years after their breakup, the Oscar-winning actress spoke candidly about filming The Amazing Spider-Man and the lasting memories she carries from that experience.

During Vogue’s “Life in Looks,” Stone, 36, revisited her role as Gwen Stacy, the character that introduced her to Garfield, who played Peter Parker. The pair began dating in 2011 after meeting on set and reportedly parted ways in 2015.

“I really loved doing Spider-Man,” Stone said. “I loved everyone I worked with. I met Andrew there. It was really a special time in my life.”

She highlighted the friendships she formed with other cast and crew members, including Sally Field and director Marc Webb. For her, the strongest memories came not from the movie itself, but from the people around her.

Key Points:

  • Emma Stone recalls meeting Andrew Garfield while filming The Amazing Spider-Man

  • The two dated from 2011 to 2015 before separating

  • Stone described the experience as “a special time” in her life

  • She admitted press tours for the franchise were exhausting and overwhelming

Stone also reflected on the more demanding side of working on the franchise. She recalled the hectic international press tours that left her exhausted. “I don’t really know how people do it. I remember it being like nine countries in maybe two weeks, and you’re functioning in a state of jet lag never previously known to you. I felt truly psychotic the entire time,” she admitted.

While Stone has rarely spoken about Garfield in recent years, her comments mirror his own careful approach. In a 2024 interview with Esquire, Garfield addressed fan speculation that La La Land—which starred Stone opposite Ryan Gosling—was inspired by their real-life relationship. “I guess people need something to believe,” he said, firmly avoiding any confirmation.

Director Damien Chazelle also dismissed those rumors years earlier, stating the film was never based on anyone’s personal story.

Since her Spider-Man days, Stone has built a celebrated career and is now married to Dave McCary, with whom she shares a daughter, born in 2021.

For Stone, however, the memories of her time with Garfield remain tied to an important period in her life, one defined not only by work but also by meaningful personal connections.
